 | Millions of people have lost their sources of income over the last few years and they and their families have suffered greatly. The saddest thing about this situation is that many of them allowed one fatal human flaw to stop them from recovering quickly or at | least reducing the impact. And that flaw is Pride. Pride, when it comes to achievements can be a good thing. But when it stops you from acting in your best interests, it can cause huge amounts of damage.
Many of those who are currently without a source of income feel that temporary staffing jobs are a fall from the full time positions they held earlier. So they do not consider the option and suffer needless hardships. The fact of the matter is that temporary staffing is a rapidly growing part of industry and has become a major trend among employers. With flexibility a crucial issues for all businesses, many are looking at temporary staffing as a long term solution to their manpower needs. | Being A Team Player | Your ability to integrate and work effectively in a team is an essential component to career success. There are few jobs that do not require some form of teamwork and the better you are at it, the better your overall performance and growth prospects. Follow these tips and become a successful team player. • Don't sit quietly. Even if you have nothing new to contribute to a team meeting, ask questions and initiate discussions. Often a discussion of a new concept will show that it is not as good as initially thought or may find ways to improve it. Either way, you will have played a positive role producing results.
• Remember that a team goal may not be the same as your personal work related one. Learn to separate your personal and team objectives and when working in a team, do not let your personal objectives influence the way you act. If you do, you will be seen as being self-centered and soon will be an outcast among your co-workers.
• Rejection is not an insult. When you do present your ideas and concepts to your team, it is because you believe in them. But there may be issues you are not fully aware of or operational difficulties only a team member with the requisite specialization can appreciate. If your ideas are rejected, it should never be taken personally. If everyone in a tem was always right about everything, there would be no need for it in the first place. The fact that you thought about the issues and came up with ideas is enough. And the process of rejecting your concept may ignite the spark that leads to a better one.
• Express your doubts and reservations on issues but once a course of action is decided upon, you must support the team. If you don't your team will never support you when you need it.
• Be ready to offer one on one help to a team member assigned a specific task. You are not just helping one person, you are participating in the team's success.
• Get to know your team members as people, not just co-workers. It will help you to deal with the more effectively.
• Don't try and dominate proceedings. Constantly hogging the limelight will not only alienate your fellow team members, it will make you the ideal fall guy if things go wrong. | |
