 | We all have wants and needs and confusing the two is what often leads to dissatisfaction. Your needs are usually things like a nice home, a steady job and a car. Your wants could be a penthouse, a six figure bank balance and a Ferrari. When you | are looking for a job, your focus should always be on one that meets your needs, not our wants. That way you can be sure of having the basics of life in place. Once that happens, you can think of the Ferrari.
There's nothing wrong with ambition and wanting the best. That is what has driven many great men from small beginnings to great heights. But except for the few who have been extraordinarily lucky, few have moved from a 4th floor walkup to a mansion in the suburbs in one jump. A gradual progression gives you time to build a solid foundation to your life by securing your needs so that the occasional setbacks do the minimum damage. As you get the time to examine the options before you and make any course changes that you think may get you your wants more quickly.
One great place to explore your options is here at Locate Staffing. When you join us you will have opportunities to work with some of the best employers in Wisconsin and try your hand at different things. And while you are doing this, you keep your cash flow going and also have access to a host of benefits and training option to broaden your horizons further. With us your needs are taken care of and new avenues to your wants are always opening up. A company where you have been a temporary staffer and which you like and which likes you may consider giving you a fulltime job. Or maybe temporary staffing is where you want to make our career. | Managing Your Boss | Your boss runs the department you work in and he's the one who calls the shots. That's why he's called a manager. Getting along well with him is crucial for your career growth because he is the one who can push you up the ladder. Getting along with him does not mean only producing the results expected of you. It means managing your boss so that you have an effective working relationship. There's nothing wrong or unethical about this – it is just a matter of how you interact with him. Here are five basic steps to boss management:
1. Show him respect. That does not mean always saying "yes" or being humble. It means paying attention to what he says and trying to understand the reasons for his decisions – especially the unpopular ones. Showing that you appreciate the pressures he has to cope with and why his mood may be bad for no apparent reason will show that you respect him and the office he holds.
2. Even if you have been given independent responsibility for a task, if the opportunity permits, ask your boss for his opinion on how to go about it. Make sure you are only asking for an opinion, not a decision. You are in charge and asking your boss for a decision means passing the buck to him and dodging your responsibility. Asking for an opinion (which you don't have to accept) shows that you value his knowledge.
3. Your boss is busy and can't be bothered with petty issues. When you do get a chance to talk to him, preferably at his request, use the opportunity to put in a sentence or two about what's happening in the department. Not gossiping or back stabbing, but facts. He will appreciate your effort to keep him in the loop.
4. Be ready to take on additional responsibility when it is offered to you. Proving that you want your department to be a success means you want to make your boss a success, which he will appreciate.
5. Bosses are human. If you can communicate with him in the style he uses, he will be more comfortable discussing things with you.
Some bosses like to meet face to face, others like to use emails while others like the phone or even hand written notes or texting. Some like detailed reporting and others like it brief and to the point. Match his style and he will communicate with you more.
