 | In the past we have discussed the advantages of temporary staffing and why many people prefer it to full time employment. Of course, how happy you are with temporary staffing depends on the agency you work with. Few offer the kind of | benefits that Locate Staffing does. While we are happy when people stay on with us and make a career out of temporary staffing, we know that it is not for everyone. Most people get into temporary staffing because of full time employment is not available. And while many want to continue with it, others think of it as a staging post for full time work. We understand that not everyone who is with us will stay on and that those who are not cut out for this career will seek to turn temporary opportunities into full time employment.
Those who work with Locate Staffing find that the range of our clients and the employment opportunities available offers increased chances of getting full time employment. But they need to be prepared to seize the opportunity when it comes. Here are a few tips on how to improve your chances.
• Take every temporary assignment that is offered to you and do your best. The more faith we have in your work ethic, the more strongly will we be able to recommend you to an employer. And this is what creates a strong and important first impression.
• Make a positive impression wherever you work. Don't shirk from doing jobs that you did not expect to do. Your willingness to contribute to the company in any way you can will show your potential value.
• Don't be afraid of asking questions that will help you improve your performance. It will show your eagerness to learn.
• Be patient. Even if your performance has been outstanding and you know a full time vacancy exists, don't push for the job. Employers have various reasons for delaying their decisions which you may not be aware of. Push too hard and it could backfire on you.
• Don't try to cover up the reason why you are into temporary staffing. With millions of people in the same boat, there's nothing to be ashamed of and the openness and honesty you show on this subject will be taken to be a sign of the qualities that can be expected from you in the future.
And no matter how good thejob is, be objective about the company and its work culture and ethic. This is a chance for you to be sure of what you will be getting into if you are offered full time employment. Accepting an offer and then realizing that this is not the place for you will be a huge setback in your efforts to find full time employment.

| Pushing Too Hard | Everyone, when entering a new workplace, either as a temporary employee or full time, want to prove their competence and value. It's something that needs to be done – first impressions are both important and long lasting. But there is a danger of pushing too hard and producing the opposite results. Here are some of the common mistakes people make in a new job and tips on how to avoid them. 1. Being too friendly. It's natural to want to establish relationships with co-workers. But you are the new kid on the block and people will want to see the kind of person you are before getting friendly. Be open about who you are and show your willingness to be a good colleague and friend but wait for others to make the first move. Once that is done you can follow up on it. 2. It's natural to want to impress your boss. But you need to be aware of the organization set up and chain of communication. Bypassing your supervisor go directly to his boss, even if unknowingly, can make you an enemy and ruin your prospects. If you need to go higher up to get instructions or clarifications, make sure your supervisor knows what you are doing and why. 3. You may have worked in a company that did things in a different way. Those ways may seem better and more efficient to you and you may think that suggesting improvements will add to your value. And suggestions that increase efficiencies are always welcome. But before you start talking, take the time to understand why the present organization does thing the way they do. There may be issues you do not appreciate or limitations you do not see at first. Talking to soon may seem to be acting too big for your boots. 4. Every workplace has unwritten rules you will not find in the office manual. It's not easy to spot them, but if you watch and listen carefully, you will soon understand what the "no go" areas are and can avoid them. 5. Dress for the organization. You may have a great wardrobe, but if your co-workers are not as fashion conscious as you, learn to dress down. Nothing is as pushy as a person who overdresses in a workplace and sticks out like a sore thumb. All this does not mean that you have to be a faceless cog in the machine. A good workplace will always appreciate individuality and originality. But before you can display these qualities, you have to prove that you are an efficient cog and earn the respect of others. | |
