Those of you in search of employment may have been cheered up by the recent reports of a minor drop in the unemployment figures. It was a small drop, but perhaps it was the beginning of something better. Sadly, the impact of this fall in numbers was not felt anywhere and it now emerges that the reason behind it was something that had occurred to no one. |
It was not that more businesses were hiring and so the number of unemployed fell. The reason was that a number of people stopped looking for jobs and were left out of the unemployment statistics. It is not that these people had given up hope and were resigned to their fate. They decided that the best way to build their future was to take some time off and improve their qualifications so that they became more competitive in the job market. So they went back to school. For a reason that is not yet completely clear, the majority of these people were young women.
While this may be a sound strategy and will pay long term dividends, it presents practical problems for most people. The search for employment is an economic necessity and to give up the expectation of income for a year or more while one goes back to school is just not practical. But improved skill sets and qualifications will increase employment prospects. This is not the Catch 22 situation that it seems to be. There is a way out. A way that Locate Staffing offers all those who work with us.
We are the largest temporary staffing agency in the Sheboygan region and we count the area's leading employers among our clients. When they ask us to send them someone, they expect that person to be the best of the best. And we make sure that we meet this expectation. That's why we enjoy the reputation we have and why our clients depend on us so much. At the same time, we know that we need to support our staff in their efforts to grow professionally. They need to build up their skills and knowledge to keep performing at a high level in an increasingly competitive marketplace. And that is why we offer them a varied work experience and training programs.
The opportunity to work in different industries and in different functional areas gives a person wide exposure to different systems, methods and work cultures. Being able to absorb this on the job will increase skills, abilities and productivity thereby making the person a more valuable asset to the company. With Locate Staffing, this kind of exposure is something you can be sure of.
We also provide training to those who work with us. Our training programs are designed to provide people with the knowledge and understanding they need to expand their profiles and resumes and make them more valuable employees.
With Locate Staffing you get the best of both worlds – the opportunity to improve on your existing skills and acquire new ones so your employment potential increases. And at the same time earn an income and keep money in the bank. It's a win-win situation for you, for us and for our clients. If you would like to be part of the Locate Staffing team and enjoy these benefits, contact us and get started.

Email Dangers |
Last month we had a look at telephone etiquette. Now let's look at emails. Email is today one of the main communications platforms for both commercial as well as personal use. It's simple, quick and easy to use. And it is these factors that also make it dangerous.
Because it's simple, it's also easy to make mistakes in an email. Beware of typos and using abbreviations that could be misunderstood. The days of formal business language are almost gone, but being too casual can give other person reading the mail, the impression that you are not serious about what you are saying. Unless the person you are emailing is a very close friend, "Dear..." will always get more attention than "Hey there..." And even in an age of informality, grammar continues to be important. Small things like knowing when to use capital letter can create a positive impression.
Being quick has its risks. You can type out a short mail in a minute or two and hit the send button. A minute later you realize you made a mistake or said something that was supposed to be confidential. It's too late to do anything and unlike the spoken word, the email is permanent. You can't deny it or pretend you didn't mean to say what you did. Always read a mail over before sending it and unless it is urgent, store it in a drafts folder which you will open every couple of hours to re-read all your mails and then send them.
Being easy to use can be bad. It is easy to send off a casual mail without thinking or to send off an email when you are in a bad mood. And once again, what you say is permanent. Never send off a mail when you are upset or in a bad mood. You may say things you will regret later. Everyone has done this at some time and knows how it feels. Sadly, we forget far too soon. Next time you are upset but have to communicate something urgently, either phone or email the person and say that you are sorry but you are overloaded / need to consult other people / are waiting for some inputs / or something on those lines / and need a few hours to reply. After a couple of hours you will be able to reply without risk.
A little thought before rushing off an email can save you a huge amount of embarrassment and headaches.
